About the Unit
YARA Tanzania with its headquarters in Dar es Salaam is a duly registered company under the Laws of Tanzania as a subsidiary of Fertilizers Holdings AS. It is part of the East Africa Cluster comprising of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. The aim of Yara Tanzania is developing a market concept that increase the number of farmers that use fertilizer in Tanzania including better knowledge in plant nutrition, improved distribution and logistics. One of Yara investments in the country includes the construction of a 40 KT bulk terminal near the port of Dar Es Salaam which handles importation of bulk fertilizer, packaging and sale in Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.Operations Manager is a position located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania reporting to the General Manager. The main responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, train and coach local team for equipment periodic maintenance and other tasks within Operations, Logistics and Fleet of the Organization in a manner to optimize the output , improve efficiency and contribute in achieving the Company mission and goals.
Responsibilities
- Execute the annual business plan related to operations processes according to the segment and BU expectations
- Plan and execute imports of fertilizers in line with Yara Global Planning Process
- Oversee Dar es Salaam Port or any other port in East Africa Cluster, Terminal and IMS operations while optimizing related resources.
- To plan transportation according to needs and to ensure the needed capacity is available at peak season
- Implement safe by choice initiative across supply chain people and processes by ensuring all processes within the terminal adhere to HESQ guidelines as well as Implementation of lean tools; 5S, KAIZEN and single point lesson
- Oversee optimal stock control and customer order processing. Proactively address and immediately respond to quality related concerns/complains
- Oversee the planned maintenance of plant equipment while ensuring reliability of automated/computerized systems and facility equipment
- Build and maintain collaborative relations with stakeholders such as key strategic customers, Port Authorities, Railways Authorities.
- Coaching and training operations local team and build up local capacity for reaching high operational efficiency always observing Yara’s standards.
- Lead, motivate and encourage teamwork within the workforce to ensure high productivity and morale
- Ensure that Yara Procurement Directive and process is maintained within Operations
Profile
- Bachelor Degree in Technical or Engineering disciplines or its equivalent
- 10 years of proven track records running terminal operations, 5 of which should be at managerial level
- Hands-on ability in advanced computer applications
- Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English
- Strong safety orientation
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills
- Strong business acumen
- Strong negotiations skills
Additional Information This position is based in East Africa Cluster and this may be either Tanzania or Kenya. Management will decide the precise location in due course.
